What is your full name and where are you from?

My name is Katelin Noyer and I am from Auckland, New Zealand

What is your current profession and how long have you been doing it?

I am currently working at Swish Factory and have been working there since after lockdown. I also worked at Swish Factory every time I came home from college for my break. I help coach classes, holiday programmes, 3×3 tournaments and work the shooting machines/reception. I really enjoy this job as it gives me somewhere to train also!

Why did you choose the game of basketball?

Out of all the sports I played, basketball was always the most fun for me. You can do more in basketball other than like sports such as volleyball or netball, which I used to also play. Basketball also gave me so many awesome opportunities with travel and college.

What school did you attend and did you play basketball?

For my first three years of high school I went to Glenfield College, but moved in my fourth year to Westlake as the sport was at a much higher level.

You are role model for young men and women, what advice do you have for them getting into basketball?

My advice would be to work hard and honestly just enjoy it. We all started playing basketball because we love the game and in order to do well in basketball you need to want to play and have that drive. Get in some extra training when you can outside of your team as those players tend to be the most successful.

What has been the highlight of your career?

I would have to say the highlight of my career so far would be making the tall ferns team back In 2016 when I was 18. Getting to travel to china with the girls and getting to play high level basketball at a young age helped me in my college career.

Who has been your biggest influence in basketball and why?

I would have to say my biggest influence would be my older brother Karl Noyer. All throughout my life he has been supporting me and helping me with my basketball and helping me get to where I am today. Growing up I watched him play basketball and continue to do that today when he represents New Zealand for 3×3 on the world stage and create an amazing facility like Swish Factory.

Who is the ultimate women’s basketball player in New Zealand and why?

In my opinion, Chevannah Paalvast has always been one of the best players to come out of New Zealand basketball. She is such a hard-working player and is a threat on both offence and defence. She can dominate in both 5 on 5 basketball and 3×3. Chevvy is also a great leader.

If you have one piece of advice to give to your younger self what would it be?

A piece of advice that I would give to my younger self, and honestly my 22-year-old self is to not be so hard on yourself. Keep your head up high and do not be afraid of mistakes. Basketball is a game full of mistakes and focusing on those small mistakes will affect the rest of your game. Stand tall.

What would be the pinnacle in your basketball career?

I would have to say the pinnacle of my career so far would be winning our regular season conference at Fresno State in my senior year.

You have been chosen to play in the Tall Fern Showcase next week. Are you excited?

I am very excited to be chosen for this upcoming Tall Ferns show case, as I have not been able to represent New Zealand since being over in America. However, unfortunately I am currently injured and wearing a moonboot which means I will not be allowed to participate in this showcase physically, but I will be there to support!
