Jesse: What is your full name and where are you from?
My name is Zavier Pearn and I am from Byron Bay in Australia but grew up and live in Palmerston North
Jesse: Why did you choose the game of basketball?
Zavier: I always remember wanting to play basketball from a very young age because my father played professionally so I wanted to be just like him.
Jesse: What schools have you attended, and what are your achievements and highlights?
Zavier: I attended Palmerston North Boys’ High and my best achievement and favourite highlight would have to be being a co captain for the Prem A’s in my final year.
Jesse: You are a role model for our younger generation. What advice do you have for them getting into basketball?
Zavier: My advice would be to always take every opportunity that is presented to you and always give 100%. And eat your veggies of course.
Jesse: What has been the ultimate highlight in your basketball career?
Zavier: Definitely travelling to Las Vegas with the New Zealand Basketball Academy in 2018. Having that opportunity to travel across the world and play high level Basketball with my mates was something I will always be grateful for.
Jesse: Who has been your biggest influence in basketball and why?
Zavier: My biggest Influence in Basketball has to be my Dad as he is the reason I started to play and he is always there at every training and every game as a coach and a supporter.
Jesse: How do you mentally prepare yourself for a game?
Zavier: Before every game I try to make an effort to enjoy myself and have a positive mentality at all times.
Jesse: Who is the ultimate women’s basketball player in New Zealand?
Zavier: Definitely Charlisse Leger-Walker.
Jesse: Who is the ultimate men’s basketball player in New Zealand?
Zavier: Sir Lightning himself, Ashton McQueen.
Jesse: In terms of your playing career, what would be the pinnacle for you?
Zavier: Being able to play for a long time and have it be my full time job.
Jesse: What’s the best pair of basketball shoes you have owned?
Zavier: Gotta be my KD10s signed by Kevin Durant.
Jesse: Who has been the hardest person to guard in your career and why?
Zavier: Jayden Bezzant because he is a threat from deep and inside the key. JB also has the skills to score going left or right so there is nothing you can really do.
Jesse: Who is the greatest player of all time and why?
Zavier: Michael Jordan. Cant beat 6 for 6.
Jesse: If you had one piece of advice for your younger self, what would it be?
Zavier: Bet on yourself, take every opportunity you get, and treasure every moment on the court because you never know when it could end.
Jesse: Can basketball in New Zealand be improved?
Zavier: I Think Basketball in New Zealand could be improved by giving more people the opportunity to play on a big stage and with high level talent.
Jesse: What is your favourite food?
Zavier: Can never go wrong with a bit of Eggs Benedict.
Jesse: Best basketball movie or book of all time?
Zavier: Uncle Drew.

Zavier: Love on Top by Beyonce.
Jesse: You are currently playing for the Mighty Manawatu Jets, what can you bring to the team this season?
Zavier: On the court I can help the team by utilising my shooting ability and by giving it my all on the defensive end and doing the little things that don’t show up on the stat sheet like executing plays well, diving on loose balls and being a great teammate.
